Questions
Asked and answered
The ten questions the house fields most, answered plainly. Anything stranger is best asked in person, where the perfumer enjoys it more.
Can I buy the perfumes here?
The site is a demonstration of a fictional perfumery. If Nocturne existed, samples would be 2 ml at $12, credited against a full bottle within sixty days, and full bottles would be pressed in numbered runs of 200 to 600.
What does "numbered pressing" mean?
Every batch is counted. Your flacon carries its number and its batch date on the base. When a pressing sells through, the perfume is gone until the next pressing, which may take months.
Why is the wait list for sittings so long?
One visitor at a time, forty minutes, and the perfumer answers her own door. Eleven weeks is what that arithmetic produces, and we decline to fix it by rushing anyone.
Do you ship internationally?
In the fiction, yes, with the usual customs caveats for alcohol-based goods. In reality, nothing here ships anywhere because nothing here exists.
Are the perfumes natural?
Botanical first, with a few modern molecules where they earn their place. The perfumer's position, stated at length in the journal, is that "natural" is a marketing word and "good" is a standard.
Can I visit without a sitting?
Yes. The shop is open Thursday to Saturday and you may smell blotters freely. A sitting simply adds skin, time, coffee, and the perfumer's full attention.
Do you do weddings, brands, candles, diffusers?
No. The house composes for the cabinet and, twice a year, for one private commission. White-label work is the fastest way we know to stop being a house.
What if I dislike a fragrance after buying?
A 2 ml sample bought within sixty days is credited against the full bottle, which is the honest way to buy perfume. There is no returns window beyond that, because opened perfume cannot be resold, only admired.
Why a month of maceration?
Because week one is a stranger and week four is the perfume. The journal entry "On Maceration" covers the whole month in detail.
Is any of this real?
No. Nocturne, its perfumer, its perfumes, its address, and every number on this site are invented. The design and writing are the only real things here.
